Rx4good’s new white paper, AI in Patient Advocacy: Adoption, Trust, and the Next Wave of Patient-Focused Innovation, considers this challenge through the lens of advocacy leaders, patient communities, and the companies working with them.

This white paper summarizes the AI landscape in patient advocacy and the most significant opportunities for industry to support their patient advocacy partners. Finally, we offer practical steps to help organizations navigate this period of change.

A few findings stood out:

  • Trust is the gating factor. Advocacy leaders consistently raised concerns about accuracy, bias, privacy, and whether AI tools will work equitably across patient populations.
  • Human connections remain non-negotiable. Organizations were clear that lived experience, peer support, and human interaction should not be replaced by technology.
  • Adoption is moving forward, but cautiously. Most advocacy organizations are still in early or exploratory phases, with AI use concentrated in lower-risk, behind-the-scenes tasks rather than direct patient support.
  • There is a real opportunity for industry to lead differently. While so much technology is being pushed indiscriminately, industry can create, with advocates, the conditions for responsible adoption: readiness, practical governance, equitable access, and transparent evaluation

The implication is clear: better patient-facing AI will not come from technology alone. It will come from working with advocates to create solutions committed to transparency, safety, and access.

In our conclusions, we suggest five concrete ways for industry to put these learnings into practice, linking the future of care that is rapidly approaching and the patient communities navigating that future today.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss the future of healthcare with you, and the parts we can all play in contributing to these advances.
